Just think, as songwriters, each and every one of us has a unique voice waiting to be shared with the world through our songs.
This is because we are all one-of-a-kind individual human beings and as such, our views of the world around us are all slightly different from one another.
For me, realising this fact has given me the confidence to just be myself and create, no matter what crap my inner critic tells me.
I’ve also realised that because there is only one of me (thank goodness), I have a very Corey-esque way of looking at the world and it’s this slight difference that makes whatever song I write worth writing.
This way of looking at the world has come about from my 46 years of living life on this planet. It’s the sum total of all of my experiences, thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams.
Another wonderful thing about this realisation is that every other songwriter is in this world, whether they are just starting out or, they’ve been honing their craft for years, is in exactly the same boat as I am.
This certainly gives me something to think about the next time I hear myself saying “I have nothing to write about.”
