I’m really proud to be part of the next instalment of the Prom Writers Night which is happening tonight (May 10th) at The Promethean, located at 116 Grote Street, Adelaide.

Entry is FREE and doors open at 7:30pm

These nights are designed as an opportunity for local singer songwriters (that would be me) to perform their songs in front of an appreciative and have the music recorded in a truly beautiful venue.

As an added incentive, The Promethean has teamed up with Adelaide’s premier recording facility Chapel Lane Studios by offering a monthly prize.

Audience members will be encouraged to vote on each artists songwriting, and the artist with the most votes at the end of the night will win a full day acoustic demo package in Chapel Lane’s state of the art AWS room, valued at $700.

What this means is the more people I can get to this gig and vote, the better my chances of getting some recording time at Chapel Lane.

Now that’s exciting.

I’ll be playing with two other acts called “Falling With Style” and “The Two Strokes” so it should be a fantastic night I reckon.

The Promethean is the venue I’ll be using for my CD launch so this will be a good test to see how the venue works so come along, spread the word, tell all your mates and lets share a great night of music… together.

Not long ago I launched a songwriting blog called All About Songwriting and now I want to share with YOU.

I created All About Songwriting for the purpose of helping all songwriters of any level, expand on what songwriting knowledge they already have or, to perhaps to help beginning songwriters start off their creative journeys in the right direction.

This is my attempt to document in one place, all aspects of songwriting, musicianship and the creative process in general that I’ve directly experienced myself or, from what I’ve curated from the best songwriting resources on the internet.

I want this songwriting blog to be a constant reminder for me of why I write songs in the first place.

My goal is to have All About Songwriting become one of the most trusted sources of songwriting information on the web.

I’ll be launching a music business blog called All About Music Business for the same reasons but for music business and marketing matters in the very near future, so watch this space.

In the meantime, All About Songwriting can only develop in the long term with direct input from its readers so, if there are any questions that you have about songwriting, musicianship or the creative process in general, just let me know and I will do my very best to answer them.

The recording part of my CD officially finished yesterday with the mastering of the recorded tracks completed by Neville Clark at Disk Edits. I was there with Anthony Stewart of Red Brick Music to witness the whole thing.

The process of audio mastering has always been a mystery to me. I know roughly what it is and where it’s placed in the  recording process, but if you asked me to explain it to you in more technical detail, my mind would draw a complete blank.

However, by watching Neville at work, it gave me a little bit more insight into the mysterious world of audio mastering.

 A t the end of the five hour session both and I were given audio reference discs with all the  finished tracks on it. This was so we could give everything a final listen and make note of any changes that would need to be made before we both give the final OK.

That should take a week.

The songs are also in the final CD release order so listening to the disc will give me a chance to see if the proposed order actually works as a whole. I’ve loaded all the tracks onto my Mac and I’m listening to the songs as I’m typing this.

I’ve got to say, the songs are sounding AWESOME!

Now with the recording process officially over, I can now concentrate on:

• Getting the CD Pre-Order campaign up and running
• Start officially promoting my CD Launch at The Promethean
• Anything else that needs to be done (my to-do list is growing every day)

Ah, the joys of being a performing songwriter… I wouldn’t have it any other way
