Vale Chris Bailey…

chrisbailey

You might have noticed I’ve been a little quiet lately and the reason is that I was honoured to be playing bass for GANGgajang at the “Adelaide Salutes Chris Bailey” concert at the Thebarton Thestre last night.

Because of this I’ve been head down and bum up learning the songs over the past three weeks or so to ensure that I do justice to Chris Bailey’s bass lines.

Well last night went off and all of the homework had paid off.

The Thebby was packed to the brim, and GANGgajang and the rest of the who’s who of the Australian Live Music Industry played to an inch of their lives for Chris who was the bass player for The Angels and GANGgajang and a much loved human being.

GANGgajang

(I’m on the right)

Even though I’ve never met Chris personally I got a glimpse into the type of person and musician Chris was through studying his bass lines, listening to how his bandmates and his friends speak of him plus, the physical feeling of all the love from the audience at the show.

CHRISTORY – The Chris Bailey Story

On waking up this morning I noticed that last night’s experience has changed me in a way that I can’t explain as yet but I know I’ve proven to myself that through sheer persistence and determination, I can work my ass off, rise up to a challenge and kick it.

My job last night was to honour Chris Bailey’s memory and uphold his bass playing legacy and from all the feedback I got last night, the job was done.

Vale Chris Bailey, you will be forever missed.

Peace,

Corey :)

The Prom Writers Night – The Aftermath

About three weeks ago I participated in The Prom Writers Night , a songwriting showcase held monthly at The Promethean (my new favourite venue in Adelaide).

I performed with two other acts, a comedy duo called The Two Strokes and a soloist by the name of Steve Fotineas.

At the end of the night the small but very appreciative audience were asked to vote for the act they thought was the most deserving of the monthly prize of 8 hours recording time at Chapel Lane Studios.

Guess what? I WON. I now have 8 hours of recording time at Chapel Lane Studios, one of the best recording studios in Adelaide if not, Australia at my disposal.

I’m thinking of using the time to see how many new songs I can play live in an 8 hour period. I’m not sure what songs I’m going to be doing but it’s going to be a whole lot of fun.

The studio session has been booked for Wednesday, June 26th. I’ll definitely let you know how it all goes.

Peace,

Corey :)

CS Gig Alert: Prom Writers Night – May 10th, 2012

I’m really proud to be part of the next instalment of the Prom Writers Night which is happening tonight (May 10th) at The Promethean, located at 116 Grote Street, Adelaide.

Entry is FREE and doors open at 7:30pm

These nights are designed as an opportunity for local singer songwriters (that would be me) to perform their songs in front of an appreciative and have the music recorded in a truly beautiful venue.

As an added incentive, The Promethean has teamed up with Adelaide’s premier recording facility Chapel Lane Studios by offering a monthly prize.

Audience members will be encouraged to vote on each artists songwriting, and the artist with the most votes at the end of the night will win a full day acoustic demo package in Chapel Lane’s state of the art AWS room, valued at $700.

What this means is the more people I can get to this gig and vote, the better my chances of getting some recording time at Chapel Lane.

Now that’s exciting.

I’ll be playing with two other acts called “Falling With Style” and “The Two Strokes” so it should be a fantastic night I reckon.

The Promethean is the venue I’ll be using for my CD launch so this will be a good test to see how the venue works so come along, spread the word, tell all your mates and lets share a great night of music… together.

Peace,

Corey :)

CD Project Update #25 – CD Launch: Change In Venue/Date

I just wanted to let you all know that there has been a change in plan regarding the “Seeing Stars” CD Launch venue and date.

I’ve decided to take a leap of faith and go with The Promethean (which was my first choice anyway) instead of The Brunswick as the launch venue.

The reason for the change in venue was pretty simple. Space and capacity.

As I’m working towards a target of 150-200 people to come to my launch I’ve realised that The Brunswick would not be able to accommodate that many people whereas, The Promethean is more purpose built to handle what I’m wanting to do.

(The Promethean also has a Grand Piano and its own PA system that I can use as well which really sealed the deal for me)

So, in light of the change of venue there’s also a change in the launch date.

It’s been changed from Saturday, June 30th to Sunday, August 26th as it was suggested to me by the manager of The Promethean, David Grice that a Sunday mid/late afternoon show would be an ideal time for the launch.

I know that it’s added another couple of months to the timeline but it will give me all the time I need to really promote the launch and to rehearse the band to its fullest potential.

Once again I’m excited.

Peace,

Corey :)

PS: I’ve also booked the mastering of the CD for Thursday, April 26th at Disk Edits. More details as they come to hand.
